| About Telluride |

Telluride, Colorado is the remarkable crown Jewel of the Rocky Mountains. The town was first discovered by Ute Indians who came during the summer months to hunt. Then in the early 1800’s, Fur Traders pillaged the beaver dams on the banks of the San Miguel but it was not until the late 1800’s that gold was discovered in the high country. Fortune seekers from around the globe set their sights on Telluride. After the mining years the town grew fairly quiet until the 1960’s when it was rediscovered by those who sought a place to establish a new way of life far from the big cities. Once the ski area was developed, property values soared making land in Telluride and the surrounding area as valuable as the gold and silver it once reaped. Coupled with its beautiful 14,000 ft. mountains and blue ribbon waterfalls Telluride continues to be that sought after place for residents and visitors alike.
Telluride Ski Resort was originally founded in 1972 by a Calilfornia resident by the name of Joe Zoline. On opening day, the ski resort consisted of 5 lifts and a day lodge. All of the lifts were located in Mountain Village with no access to town except for a shuttle. By 1975, the Coonskin lift was installed and linked the town of Telluride to the ski area.
Today, Telluride ski resort has over 1700 acres (680 hectacres) of skiable terrain with 17 total lifts, 92 tails and a vertical drop of over 3500 feet (1078m). The average snowfall is 309 inches (789cm) per year. The ski resort hosts a multitude of dining options including ones that sit almost 12,000 ft above sea level. Be sure to stop at Gorrono’s Ranch for a burger, a drink and breathtaking views of Mt. Wilson. The ski resort offers many other amenities including slopeside storage lockers, ski and snowboard lessons, equipment rentals and child care. |
